If I Don’t Whisper, I Will Forget
Noor Abuarafeh
2025
Publication: texts and illustrations, 140 pages, 20 x 13,5 cm.
A book of letters from the author to her newborn, drawn from a diary written in 2021. What began as a documentation of her child’s growth gradually expanded to include childhood memories and events occurring in Palestine and beyond, as well as documentation of Palestinian dishes learned from the grandmother.
Part of a larger project on storytelling as memory transmission, it reflects on parenthood as a means of preserving heritage when historical material evidence is threatened under colonial power, and ponders the possibility of replacing objects with immaterial practices.
The book Incorporates illustrations, political reflections, and photographs of landscapes captured during walks with her son. This edition presents 60 letters, weaving personal, political, and culinary memory into a continuous act of creation and transmission.
