Sonic Justice
Earshot Team: Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Fabio Cervi
How sound can become a powerful tool in artistic research, human rights, and journalism.
As the first global organization dedicated to the use of sound to defend human and environmental rights, Earshot acts where the ear becomes a tool for justice. Born from more than ten years of research, artistic creation, and advocacy, the project was founded by artist and sound investigator Lawrence Abu Hamdan, a pioneer in challenging the uses of forensic audio and its beneficiaries.
Denunciation of the non-scientific use of accent tests in asylum applications, acoustic reconstruction of the Syrian Saydnaya prison with Amnesty International, identification of the tank that killed Hind Rajab, tracking of the sonic signatures of environmental destruction... each investigation pushes the boundaries of what sound can reveal.
From witness media—voice messages, shaky videos, recordings captured under duress—Earshot analyzes events at 48,000 samples per second. A deep dive into the heart of a rapidly emerging discipline, where technical precision serves truth and memory.
