Diasporic Existence : The Endurance of Identity Across Temporal and Spatial Boundaries

Between two shores, a story of exiles and cross-cultural encounters.
At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the Iranian diasporas settled on the shores of the Red Sea traced trajectories made of departures, mobilities, and identity recompositions. Between the Qajar, Ottoman, British, and Italian empires, they invent ways of inhabiting elsewhere, weaving bonds of belonging and negotiating their place in a plural cultural fabric.
In this conference, Sara Zanotta questions what it means to "do diaspora": maintaining a national spirit at a distance while cultivating diversity and hybridization, balancing rootedness and displacement, inventing strategies for visibility in an ever-changing world.
