Technical training: a step forward for the entertainment industry in Tunisia

We are pleased to share with you a major step forward in the realisation of our mission within the Tunisian cultural ecosystem. Since its foundation, L'Art Rue has been committed to supporting artists and contributing to cultural development in Tunisia. Today, we're taking things a step further with the launch of technical training modules as part of the Massari project, in partnership with the Centre de Formation Professionnelle aux Techniques du Spectacle (CFPTS).

This technical training, dedicated to the entertainment industry, covers the essential aspects of sound, lighting and audiovisuals. The mentor of this initiative, Mohamed Hédi Belkhir, known as Mich, is a sound engineer and technical director from Tunisia. His collaboration with the instructors at the CFPTS, renowned for its excellence in training for the technical professions of live performance and events, has ensured that the content is of the highest quality and professional rigour, while being closely aligned with the realities of the Tunisian market and the specific needs of the learners.

A Growing Need for Technical Training

The enthusiasm for this training course was reflected in the record number of applications received in a short space of time. With 171 applications from 18 governorates, it is clear that the technical events sector in Tunisia is in urgent need of this kind of support. The participants come from regions as varied as Kasserine, Monastir, Sousse and many others, testifying to the national appeal of this opportunity.

A two-stage process was used to select the 22 participants for the three modules. In the first phase, 39 applications were shortlisted on the basis of experience, skills, motivation and learning potential. The second phase, consisting of individual interviews, enabled a more detailed assessment of the candidates' skills and commitment.

Innovative and inclusive modules

The training modules are divided into three areas: Audiovisual, Lighting and Sound. Each module, which lasts 15 days, combines theory and practice, with expert input and plenty of experimentation.

- Sound Module: This module looks at sound control for the performing arts, exploring advanced techniques for capturing, processing and broadcasting sound, with an emphasis on the use of professional equipment and sound spatialisation technologies.

- Audiovisual Module: Participants create immersive visual experiences, focusing on digital projection, image creation and synchronisation with live performances.

- Lighting Module: This introduces participants to lighting design, enabling them to develop the technical and artistic skills to animate performances with striking lighting.

Final phase and joint project

One of the teaching objectives of this course is to encourage collaborative work between the three cohorts of modules, enabling participants to experience the real dynamics of the field through a joint artistic project. To achieve this, the end of the training was punctuated by an intensive week, during which the participants were given the task of designing a project integrating lighting, sound and audiovisual elements. This challenge, which included the requirement to present their creation in front of an audience, provided a significant learning opportunity. At the end of the presentation, described as a success by all the trainers, the participants rose brilliantly to the challenge. The trainers also recognised the strong potential already evident in the learners, stressing the need to coach them, channel their skills and professionalise them in order to prepare them effectively for the job market.

In response to the enthusiasm generated by these courses and the convincing results achieved, L'Art Rue plans to expand its programme by offering annual cycles, including new modules, particularly in scenography, to better reflect the changing needs of the market. We are convinced that these initiatives will contribute not only to the development of local talent, but also to the professionalisation of the technical events sector in Tunisia.
