A Commitment from L’Art Rue to Cultural Professions

Since its founding, L’Art Rue has been committed to cultural development in Tunisia, particularly through its Transmission program, which supports artists and cultural professionals throughout their careers. As part of the Massari program, we are continuing this commitment with a series of free training sessions dedicated to cultural professions.

Following the success of previous modules—on cultural mediation, technical training in sound, lighting and audiovisual production, and artistic practice in dance/choreography with Radouan Mriziga—we are concluding this cycle with a unique training opportunity in documentary theater, designed to explore art as a space for analysis, memory, and resistance.

Documentary Theater Workshop

Led by renowned Egyptian theater director Laila Soliman, in collaboration with visual artist and scenographer Bissane Al Charif, this workshop offers a dynamic and critical approach to documentary theater. Participants will be invited to develop their own sense of urgency in response to political and social realities, through field research, interviews, and stage experimentation.

Rather than framing documentary theater as a fixed format, the workshop approaches it as a flexible method where documentation, voice, gesture, and space come together to shape powerful narratives.

Throughout the two-week workshop, participants will engage in both individual and collaborative work, focusing on material collection, dramaturgical construction, and staging, with input from several guest lecturers and specialists.

This workshop is open to 12 emerging artists or performers based in Tunisia, fluent in both Arabic and English, available full-time for the entire duration of the workshop, and with prior professional experience in theater or performance.

The selection will take place in two stages:

A preliminary selection based on application materials

An online interview for shortlisted candidates, conducted by a selection committee
