Slash Transition Presentation

When and where?

Partners +

Slash Transition is a project led by 7 partners  (Trempo (Nantes, France), Casa Capitão (Lisbonne, Portugal), Mutant Radio (Tbilissi, Georgia), OpenSpace (Innsbruck, Austria), L’Art Rue (Tunis, Tunisia) and co-financed by the European Union via its Europe Créative programme (medium-scale cooperation project). It will run for 4 years between March 2023 and March 2027.

Slash Transition examines the place and role of the sound artist in a region in transition.

The project was born of two major observations.

Firstly, the economies of live music and streaming are not enough for artists to have a career that is economically viable over time. The artist's career must also be part of a fairer and more ecological approach. In fact, we need to think about new economic models to enable artists to build sustainable careers, in correlation with the transformations in our societies.

All the partners in the project are based in areas in transition. These transitions (urban, economic, social, ecological, etc.) are creating new issues within these neighbourhoods (social mix, gentrification, revitalisation, security, etc.).

The aim of Slash Transition is therefore to bring these two observations together and answer the following questions:

> How can a sound artist support territorial change while consolidating his or her career in a more virtuous way?

> How can an artist be a player in the making of the city?

For 4 years, a group of 7 partners will be experimenting with these links in 5 territories in transition, located in Innsbruck (Austria), Lisbon (Portugal), Nantes (France), Tbilisi (Georgia) and Tunis (Tunisia). The European dimension of the project will enable the different realities of artists (status, legislation, support) and territories (different issues) to be confronted.
