Slash Transition 2nd Round

Slash Transition is an ambitious four-year programme, running from 2023 to 2027, which explores the role of sound artists at the heart of rapidly changing areas. This project brings together seven partners, all based in areas undergoing urban, economic, social and ecological transitions. These contexts generate essential reflections on contemporary themes such as social diversity, gentrification and the environment.

The aim of Slash Transition is to question the artistic approach in the face of territorial dynamics:

•    How can a sound artist accompany the evolution of a territory while cultivating a virtuous career?

•    What role can an artist play actively in the co-construction of the city?

During the second phase of the Slash Transition programme, five new artists will be selected to participate in a creative and exploratory journey focused on transition issues. Announced in September, these artists will benefit from a training programme in December 2025 in Nantes, France, and will participate in residencies in 2026.

Among the selected artists, the Tunisian artist Oussama Menchaoui, who will be in residence at MUTANT RADIO in Georgia. For our part, we are welcoming Pedro Latas, a Portuguese artist based between the Netherlands and Portugal, who will be in residency at L'Art Rue.

Prior to Pedro Latas' residency at L'Art Rue in 2026, a Local Hub was formed with six members to organise collaborative working sessions and immersive visits. The aim is to provide the artist with a comprehensive toolkit for exploring the Medina of Tunis and its dynamics of transition.

The multidisciplinary team, composed of Sihame Lamine, Alia Sellami, Yafa Saidi, Aly Mrabet, Jamila Binous, and Aziz Ghariani, came together to support this innovative approach.

These meetings were formalised in a methodological text written by Sihem Lamine, an architect and researcher in the history of Islamic architecture, working at the Harvard University office in Tunis.
