This residency was supported by the DROSOS Foundation and MIMETA and was made available by the Marengo Club.
After a career as a dancer-performer, choreographer of his own solos and duets and associate choreographer, Rochdi Belgasmi has decided to take a break from the stage to set other bodies in motion.
"Les Ménades de Bab Souika" or "Lamboubet" is a project that responds to this aspiration, developed during a four-month artistic residency at L'Art Rue.
Rochdi Belgasmi has always tried to talk about others, to pay tribute to them through the artistic medium of dance. So he invited El Khadhra, a legendary dancer from the 1980s and 1990s, to work on the history of popular Tunisian dance. The aim of the piece is not to write an epitaph, but to pay tribute to the great popular Tunisian dancers.
"Lamboubet" reveals the contribution of past generations to the recognition of dance as a profession, and their role in preserving a collective memory.
