To the Water Hunters
Ayman Zedani
2025
Installation: sound, speakers, textile, wax, pottery, dimensions variable.
Co-commissioned and co-produced by L’Art Rue/Dream City and Art Jameel.
Zedani has dedicated years of artistic research into traditional ecological knowledge and ancient land practices across the Arabian Peninsula. There, he encountered Tarq, a traditional mountain singing practice tied to daily life, used in working the land, harvesting crops, and shepherding animals, and in moments of celebration and grief.
Unexpectedly, he discovered that the same tradition exists in Tunisia, revealing shared heritage and cultural overlaps. Zedani collaborated with local Tarq singers, potters, beekeepers, and botanists to create a sensory ecosystem at Tourbet Sidi Bou Khrissane.
Centered on sound, the project investigates farming, water harvesting, and the relation between human and non-human experiences.
