To Hell With Art

Iraqi monologist Aziz Ali wielded his satirical songs as a weapon against injustice, placing him in direct conflict with authorities from the monarchy to successive regimes, and leading to his eventual isolation and silence. Yet, his works continued to echo across generations, summoned during revolutions and uprisings.
The video positions Ali’s life as a satirical narrator of a history that was never properly written. More than a biography, the work examines the fraught relationship between art and politics in Iraq, offering a wider reflection on censorship, resistance, and artistic integrity.
