Tarab is a choreographed celebration by Eric Minh Cuong Castaing, in collaboration with the Lebanese musician of Palestinian origin Rayess Bek, performed with seven dancers from Egypte, Palestine, Lebanon and Tunisia.
Driven by the rhythms of popular dances, they become one with a hundred accomplices to take the audience into a joyful trance, at the crossroads of tradition and contemporary. In this artwork, the music becomes a breath, the rhythm a memory, and the dance, a language of resistance.
Tarab is the emotion that connects bodies and hearts. Dedicated to two dancers from Gaza, Ahmed Medhat (killed in February 2024) and Mumen Khalifa (severely injured), the work carries within it the shadow of an ongoing tragedy, but also the impulse of life. It resonates with the voice of the Palestinian people, in a gesture of tribute and reparation.
