Badke(remix) is a contemporary reinterpretation of the play Badke, created in 2013 by Koen Augustijnen, Rosalba Torres, and Hildegard De Vuyst. Transmitted today to Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab, the piece returns to Palestinian artistic hands, where it all began.
The title deliberately reverses dabke, this popular Palestinian dance that becomes a starting point, a field of experimentation. Dancers coming from traditional dabke, hip-hop, circus, or capoeira fuse their languages in a collective, explosive choreography, filled with joy.
But beneath the apparent vitality, tensions surface. Badke(remix) questions the plasticity of tradition: how many contemporary elements can it accommodate without losing itself? How to transform without betraying?
On stage, the bodies leap until exhaustion. Dancing to resist. Dancing to assert one's presence. Dancing so as to not disappear.
