Badke(remix) is a contemporary reinterpretation of Badke, the dance piece originally created in 2013 by Koen Augustijnen, Rosalba Torres, and Hildegard De Vuyst. Now led by Amir Sabra and Ata Khatab, this new version is fully in Palestinian artistic hands. The title deliberately inverts dabke, the traditional Palestinian folk dance that serves as the starting point for the piece. Dancers with backgrounds in traditional dabke, hip-hop, capoeira, and circus merge genres to create an explosion of joy—a form of collective, joyful resistance. Badke(remix) explores the flexibility of tradition: how much contemporary influence can dabke absorb? How can one disrupt without erasing? Beneath the vibrant energy, deeper layers emerge—social tension, the weight of occupation, and a fierce will to exist. To dance until collapse. To dance as a way of saying: we are here.
