Wael Ali is a Syrian writer and theatre director. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus in 2004 and has lived in Lyon since 2006. In 2014, he created Je ne m’en souviens plus, followed by Titre provisoire (2016) and Sous un ciel bas (2019), a trilogy about theatre and war. He then created Simple formalité (2020) and Pianola (2021), a performance exploring prophecy across the Mediterranean. 

Since 2023, he has been working on Prova, a research-based project to reconstruct a lost play created in 1990 in a Syrian political prison, using the memories of the director and former prisoners who performed it.
