The present report is on urban securiy in the Medina of Tunis, commissioned by Dignity (Danish Institute against Torture). The research rests on alocal-based qualitative survey on violence and urban security with the Medina of Tunis as the selected field of investigation. The survey aims at identifying means to develop concrete initiatives of community work in this location and participatory activities involving a wide range of local actors to improve security and its perception, in a research/action context. This study will then serve as the basis for a project based on a community and participatory approach to address issues of urban security and violence and of mechanisms of avoidance and care to develop later.

This study was conducted in 2018 by Mr. Adnen el Ghali, architect-urbanist, principal researcher, coordinator of the study and Dr. Yassine Turki, teacher-researcher, principal researcher and Ahlam Chemlali, collaborating researcher at the request of Dignity Danish Institute Against Torture.

L'Art Rue, which has been working in the Medina of Tunis since 2006, facilitated this study, as did the associations Beyti and Sauvegarde de la Médina de Tunis.
