L'Art Rue in collaboration with the Tunisian Association of Individual Liberties - ADLI inaugurates in spring 2022 a new cycle of debates within the framework of its online democratic space, DPDW_ Civic Space.
This first time of reflection and exchange will take place online and at the headquarters of L'Art Rue on Saturday 12 March 2022 at 3pm and will focus on the current issue of freedom of association.
Indeed, freedom of association has been considered since the Tunisian Revolution of 2011 as a democratic achievement. An effervescence has affected Tunisian civil society and many associations have emerged since then: citizen control over laws, monitoring of political performance, coaching of young people, raising awareness of citizens' rights, technical and moral support for vulnerable people, creation of projects in the regions, these are the main areas of intervention of Tunisian associations.
Very recently, the political discourse has criticised the work of civil society while deciding to carry out legislative reforms that one part of society considers necessary while the other considers liberticidal.
What do you think? Does the government really want to reform the civil society sector or does it intend to block the work of associations through legal and administrative restrictions?
Ahmed ALOUI, co-author of the study "The public funding of associations in Tunisia" conducted in 2015 under the direction of Dean Mohamed Salah Ben Aïssa, will speak to us about this theme: the issues, the guarantees after the Revolution and the current challenges related to the state of exception (revision of the decree-law No. 88). This introduction will be followed by a time of debate and exchange with the guests and any interested person.
