How to alter the classical uses of an object at the end of its life to create hybrids ; crossbreeding varieties of waste from everyday life, to form with these elements- borrowed from different functions- a new language?

From October to December 2020, the Tunisia-based French architect and designer Thomas Egoumenides develops an ephemeral laboratory entitled #Rascal for the design and valorization of salvaged materials. This workshop housed in the heart of the medina of Tunis brings together five young people from the area. The objective is to offer them a different approach to work, a different outlook; and to accompany them towards professionalization. These individuals have already worked with L'Art Rue from 2018 to 2019 with the Burkinabe choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly on the creation of Dream City: i-médine. In 2020, they are introduced to design.

Rascal experiments with waste material at the level of form and context to create objects but also to create a new language.

The residency consists of a first phase of creating a mapping of the waste of the medina to identify the types of waste present in quantities and to experiment, during a second phase, by creating a series of objects to provide an answer to the issue of upcycling.

The Rascal residency ends in December 2020 and opens its doors during an open-door exhibition to bear witness to the objects produced and to the processes undertaken.
