Nidhal Yahyaoui

Originally from Siliana, a region of mountains and farmland, Nidhal Yahyaoui grew up in the old neighborhoods of Tunis, surrounded by a mix of sounds, languages, and people.

Early on, he was drawn to classical Oriental singing – Oum Kalthoum, Warda – but quickly found his way back to the voices of his childhood: grandmothers’ lullabies, harvest songs, and the powerful rhythms of local celebrations.

His music is a kind of archaeology. He digs into collective memory, uncovering ancient sounds that he reshapes with new forms :

Bargou08 (2014), Alphawin (2016), Chaouia (2019), Gourbi (2020), Rébétiko-Maalouf (2021).

Each of his projects builds bridges – between rural traditions and contemporary sounds, between the shores of the Mediterranean, between the past and the present.

With Masreb El Hattaya, Nidhal continues this journey. He follows the paths of seasonal workers and brings to life the songs of those whose footsteps have shaped the land.
