L’Art Rue at the heart of Europe’s arts scene, IN SITU
Featuring Afef Omri and Audioclopedia
L’Art Rue is proud to announce that Afef Omri and her project Audioclopedia have been selected for the European IN SITU programme (2025–2028).
As Tunisia’s representative within this international network, L’Art Rue continues its work to support emerging artists in Tunisia and encourage cultural exchange across Europe.
Through the first open call, the Tunisian project Guerret el Anz by the Roof collective took part in the programme’s support process, which led to a public presentation at the FiraTàrrega festival in Tàrrega, Spain. For IN SITU’s second open call, 10 emerging artists from 9 countries were selected to join the production support programme. The programme offers tailored support, including research residencies, professional mentoring and opportunities to present work internationally through a network of festivals.
Exploring Chott el Jerid: Sound as a political and poetic act
Audioclopedia is an interdisciplinary research-creation project at the intersection of visual art, sound anthropology, and architecture. It explores the relationships between popular oral tradition, collective memory, and lived spatiality in southern Tunisia, through the collection of traditional songs from rural areas, oases, and peripheral territories around Chott el-Jerid.
Considering the voice as a material that is both spatial and political, the project serves as a tool for active preservation to prevent the erasure of these oral traditions. Audioclopedia deploys a sensitive sound mapping system that allows for the collection, geolocation, and documentation of acoustic landscapes and life stories, thus forming part of an ongoing process of archiving, analysis, and transmission.
Audioclopedia will be presented at IN SITU FOCUS#2 in August 2027, during the HAPU festival (Festival i Artit në Hapësirë Publike) in Pristina, Kosovo, organised by Teatri ODA.
We look forward to supporting Afef Omri at this important stage in her artistic journey.
Audioclopedia is a L’Art Rue project developed as part of the IN SITU Platform programme, supported by Creative Europe and made possible with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
