IN SITU PLATFORM X L'ART RUE
A platform for creativity in public spaces
IN SITU is the European platform dedicated to artistic creation in situ and in public space. From 2025, IN SITU launches a four-year programme (2025–2028) designed to identify, support and mentor 200 emerging artists. Cofunded by the Creative Europe programme, PLATFORM combines open calls, research phases, immersive labs, production residencies and presentation windows to offer artists opportunities for exchange, production and collective learning.
L’Art Rue acts as a local partner and selection hub within the IN SITU network. Our collaboration enables Tunisian artists to access the programme—from application to residencies, coproductions and final presentations—and to embed their practices in sustained European and Mediterranean circulations. The partnership seeks both to welcome ambitious projects and to help build professional trajectories rooted in the local territory.
How IN SITU PLATFORM works
The programme unfolds in successive cycles (2025–2026 / 2026–2027 / 2027–2028), each structured around five stages:
1. Open call: a broad annual call (650 submissions in 2025; 500 in 2026), usually closing at the end of December.
2. First selection by hubs: each hub reviews 100–120 proposals and selects about a dozen projects (roughly 60 artists in total) for Phase 1 — selections announced in February.
3. Phase 1 — research and development: workshops, online masterclasses and participation in a six-day immersive lab (May–August) to prepare an artistic presentation and a project pitch, with professional mentorship.
4. Second selection: in October, partners select 10 projects in total to move on to Phase 2.
5. Phase 2 — creation/production: coproductions and residencies organised by partners (from November of year 1 to August of year 2).
6. Cycle closing: public presentations of the creations within an IN SITU Focus hosted by one partner festival (around September of year 2).
Tunisian project selected in the first cycle 2025–2026: Guerret el Anz
Guerret el Anz passed both the first and second selections of the 2025–2026 cycle. Its residency and research itinerary is as follows:
- 6 → 17 April 2026: residency at L’Art Rue
- 11 → 24 May 2026: residency at Østfold Teater, Kråkerøy, Fredrikstad (Norway)
- 22 June → 2 July 2026: Workspace Brussels
- 20 → 31 July 2026: residency at L’Art Rue
- 31 August → 5 September 2026: residency at L’Art Rue
Public presentations of Guerret el Anz will take place within the IN SITU Focus at Fira Tàrrega (Tàrrega, Spain), 10–13 September.
Tunisian projects selected — cycle 2026–2027 (Phase 1)
For the second cycle (2026–2027), among the 49 projects retained for research and development, three Tunisian proposals are participating in international labs:
- Audioclopedia — Afef Omri (Oerol Festival lab, Terschelling, Netherlands, 8 → 13 June)
- “Echo” (صدى) — Dhafra Collective (Dommelhof / Theater op de Markt lab, Hasselt, Belgium, 3 → 8 August)
- Tracked / Unplaced — Ahmed Ben Abid (BASE / Zona K lab, Milan, Italy, 6 → 11 May)
A curatorial and political commitment
IN SITU PLATFORM prioritises proposal quality, local engagement and the meaningful placement of residency experience within artists’ careers. For L’Art Rue, this partnership is an opportunity to strengthen artistic flows between Tunis and Europe, to provide protective and demanding research time, and to foster co-creative processes that challenge the very terms of in situ practice: its modes of reception, relationships with audiences, and stakes of space and memory.
