The fascinating story of the first black bishop in the Catholic Church, who was supposed to settle in Utica in Tunisia but never did. This unfulfilled destiny is at the heart of MISSA UTICA, a creation by Sammy Baloji that retraces this historic journey through the 15th century Kongo kingdom, shedding light on the complexities of the evangelisation of Africa. Thanks to an immersive staging, you will experience the first contacts, alliances and misalliances, diplomatic exchanges and the challenges of colonisation and slavery, while reflecting on the repercussions of our colonial past on present-day realities.
