Sonia Kallel was born in Tunis in 1973. After studying fashion design at the Higher School of Fashion Industries in Toulouse, she chose to study graphic arts at the School of Fine Arts in Tunis. She then defended a doctoral thesis at the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Since then, she has been working in Tunis. As of 2010, she has been dedicating her creations to forgotten professions and communities, adopting an anthropological method of proximity based on meetings and exchanges. Her creations testify to the need to put artistic production at the service of social causes. Sonia Kallel has participated in many major artistic events in Tunisia, Europe and the Middle East. 

With The Grounding Point, Sonia Kallel is taking part in Dream City for the fourth time as a guest artist. The project has been supported and produced by the festival since 2024. She previously participated in the 2012, 2015, 2021, and 2023 editions. She has also led several workshops as part of L’Art Rue’s Art & Education program, including Medinetna (2016), Tafkik (2017), and Sāni (2021).
