As 2023 draws to a close, the general impression is that the authoritarian drift is continuing. Similarly, the establishment of the Assembly of People's Representatives on 13 March 2023, has contributed to this drift by introducing bills infringing rights and freedoms, particularly civil and political ones.

The last quarter of 2023 was marked by the continuation of arrests and prosecutions on the basis of the offence of "plotting against the external security of the State", a bill relating to the organisation of associations, introducing a tightening of procedures for setting up associations and threatening the freedom to set up associations...

To address these issues of concern to Tunisian civil society activists, and to coincide with the release of the report by the Tunisian Association for the Defence of Individual Freedoms on 12 December 2023, on the state of rights and freedoms, L'Art Rue and its partners (ADLI, ASF and the Al Kawakibi centre) are organising a debate on the threats to civil liberties in Tunisia on Tuesday 12 December 2023 at 7pm.

The event will be moderated by Wahid Ferchichi, Professor of Law at Carthage University, Amine Ghali, Director of the Kawakibi Democracy Transition Center (KADEM) and Nadhem Sfaxi, a legal expert.
