"Despotic state, authoritarian state and dictatorship? Is the democratic process in Tunisia threat-ened?" Our four experts, gathered in the face of these "Fears of the return of dictatorship", will talk about the pre-January 14, 2011 dictatorial and authoritarian regime; the guarantees gained dur-ing these ten years of Revolution that should prevent any backsliding; the rise of conservatives and populism(s) in the aftermath of the 2019 elections and the threats that this represents in the face of the fundamental ideals of the revolution.
A virtual meeting moderated by law professor Wahid Ferchichi in conversation with human rights activist and feminist lawyer Yosra Frawes, the executive director of Bawsala, Nessryne Jelalia and Hatem Mrad, professeur agrégé of political science and founding president of the Tunisian Associa-tion for Political Studies.
About the panelists
Wahid Ferchichi holds a Doctorate of Law and is a professeur agrégé in Public Law at the University of Carthage. He began teaching in 1995 at the Faculty of Law of Sfax, today he teaches at the Tunis Faculty of Law and Political and Social Sciences.
Yosra Frawes is a Tunisian business lawyer, human rights activist and feminist.
Nesrine Jelalia is the executive director of El Bawsala, a politically independent non-profit organiza-tion.
Hatem Mrad is a Tunisian political scientist. His areas of research focus on political liberalism, politi-cal parties, public opinion, governance, as well as democratic transition. He is a professeur agrégé of political science at the Faculty of Law and Political and Social Sciences at the University of Carthage and founding president of the Tunisian Association for Political Studies, as well as the founding di-rector of the Tunisian Political Science Review.
