From October 2020 to January 2021, Tunisian DJ and producer, Aly Mrabet went on a quest for sounds in the Medina of Tunis, his childhood neighborhood.
Known for its sounds, its poetic urbanity, its noisy machines, its different footsteps, and its spontaneous singers, the artist offers us an interactive sound journey mixing small stories of everyday life with the great dramas and tumultuous joys of the neighborhood’s inhabitants. His composition is the beginning of a neglected collective sound memory.
A testimony to a city in full transformation, this project of subjective memory offers an interactive audio documentary that immerses the visitor in today’s city by day and by night:
Electroniq Maqâms is also available in a musical "Live Act" which draws in the city to offer harmonies and melodies freely reinterpreted by the artistic approach of Aly Mrabet and Nacim Gastli in collaboration with Selim Arjoun. This creation has the rhythm and cadence of the districts of the medina. The melody alternates between electronic machines, artistic collaborations and captured soundscapes.
A 3rd part of this project is the creation of an online open source Samples library for professionals : noiseoftunis.com
