Nanda Mohammad
Nanda Mohammad is a distinguished Syrian actress and a graduate of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, Syria. Since graduating, she has played a vital role in contemporary Syrian theatre, working extensively with well-known Syrian directors such as Naïla Al-Atrash and Omar Abou Saada. Her contributions go beyond acting — she has also been teaching theatre since 2011, first in Syria, then in Egypt, where she now lives and actively participates in the independent arts scene.
Thanks to her talent and versatility, she has performed with both regional and international directors, including Tim Supple (UK), Nullo Facchini (Denmark), Ariane Mnouchkine (France), Khaled El Tarfifi (Jordan/Palestine), Pascal Rambert (France), Ahmed El Attar (Egypt), Daniel San Pedro (France), Leila El Yaman (Egypt), Henri Jules Julien (France), and others.
Her performances have been featured in some of the most renowned theatres and festivals around the world, including the Avignon Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, Festival d’Automne, Lincoln Center, LIFT Festival, Onassis Cultural Centre, Zurich Festival, Théâtre Vidy, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Geneva Festival, Schaubühne Berlin, Naples Festival, BOZAR, OzAsia Festival, Dramaten Theatre, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Adelaide Festival, Bobigny Theatre, Singapore International Festival of Arts, Wiener Festwochen, Sharjah Biennial, Kunstfest Weimar, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, and many more.
In addition to acting, Nanda has worked as a voice and acting coach since 2004 in Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Switzerland, and Italy. She has led workshops in these countries as well as in the UAE. Her teaching focuses on the unique connection between voice and body, aiming to help actors release and explore deep, often hidden, emotions that tend to be suppressed during performance.
She has also worked in film and television in both Syria and Egypt, most recently in the series "Bitlou’ El Rouh", directed by Kamla Abou Zekry.
Since moving to Egypt in 2012, she has been working regularly with Egyptian director Ahmed El Attar, while continuing to act in various international productions.
In 2020, Nanda was awarded the French Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier) in recognition of her contributions to the arts.
