Monira Al Qadiri
Monira Al Qadiri engages with myth-making and fantasy to excavate alternative worlds and possible futures whose potentials lie dormant within present reality. Taking inspiration from personal memories, regional histories and narratives of extractive labour, her work is tied to the stories and landscapes—natural and industrial—of the Gulf region.
As a Kuwaiti citizen born in Dakar and educated in Japan, the artist is known for examining the transnational and interconnected experience of the Gulf through a lens that gives equal weight to the truths and fictions that comprise the region.
