2nd edition of Dream City - 2010
From 13 to 16 October, Tunis
L'Art Rue
Dream City, a multi-disciplinary exhibition of art in public spaces in the medina of Tunis, was held from 13 to 16 October 2010. Dream City is the culmination of the work of a collective of Tunisian artists working together to create meaning.
For the 2010 edition, 40 works, including 24 creations by national and international artists, were presented to the public, not forgetting lively debates on the theme of ‘Towards art in public spaces in Tunisia’, an urban radio station set up by RTCI-Radio Tunis Chaîne Internationale and a photographic exhibition by Patricia K.Triki in the city on urban billboards: Free and Free Art.
Dream City continues the dream, offering artistic walks to discover works of art in unusual places, urban and poetic, with interdisciplinarity, conviviality and simultaneity as the watchwords.
Many of the works on show explore their territory; some poetise building sites; others reveal monsters from our collective history or more intimate secrets; many speak of reappropriation and reconciliation, the founding principle of Dream City's uniqueness.
Most interweave the uses of the spaces with artistic practices to reveal the spirit of the place. All are concerned with a territory and a collective memory.
Dream City praises the transitory, the experimental, the process, the collective, the cross-disciplinary, the decompartmentalisation of practices, the cross-fertilisation of viewpoints, artists and citizens. It praises the individual in/through a collective, a story within a story, the singular within humanity.
