The Tree of AuthenticityThe Tree of Authenticity

In the vastness of the Congolese rainforest, on the banks of the river, still stand the remnants of a dream of domination. There once stood Yangambi, one of the world's largest tropical agricultural research centers, where the West sought to impose its knowledge and control over nature and nations. At its peak, the site vibrated with scientific activity, promising a future shaped by experimentation and colonial modernity. Today, the jungle has reclaimed its rights and invaded the buildings, transforming the site into a landscape of memory and ruins, where questions of knowledge, its power, and its transmission persist.
Through the voices of Paul Panda Farnana and Abiron Beirnaert, two emblematic scientists who marked the history of Yangambi between 1910 and 1950, the film unravels the scars left by colonization and sheds light on the roots of an ecological injustice that is still very much alive.
The Tree of Authenticity thus displays how the memory of a place becomes the mirror of colonial legacies and environmental fractures that run through our present.
