At the heart of World War II, the city of Gabès becomes the forgotten stage of a battle against German occupation. Thanks to the story of Habiba, a wise and now elderly woman, the film sheds light on a buried memory: that of an occupied city where bonds of solidarity withstood the chaos of war. Habiba recounts the closeness with her Tunisian Jewish neighbors, those acts of mutual aid and fraternity that transcended religious and cultural differences to build bridges where everything seemed to be falling apart.
Performed through the 90-year-old grandmother of the artist Malek Gnaoui, Habiba's voice embodies an intimate transmission of History, where compassion, resilience, and friendship become timeless forces. White Habiba is not just a tribute to a bygone generation; it is an invitation to reread our present in the light of these universal values. The "white" here symbolizes Habiba's purity and innocence, a fragile spark that still lingers in collective memory.
