Manthia Diawara
Manthia Diawara (born in Bamako, lives in New York) is a filmmaker, cultural theorist and art historian whose body of work has made an enduring contribution to the field of Black and African diasporic cultural studies. We invited Manthia Diawara, with four of his documentaries, to take part in Dream City 2023 within the Dream Projects collection curated by Hoor Al Qasimi. Manthia Diawara, né à Bamako et vivant à New York, est un cinéaste, théoricien culturel et historien de l’art dont l’œuvre a apporté une contribution durable aux études culturelles des diasporas noires et africaines. Sa pratique scientifique et créative, à travers des films d’essai et des documentaires, aborde les politiques du postcolonialisme, de la décolonisation, de la migration et de la mondialisation. Manthia amplifie les voix des théoriciens et artistes noirs tout en mettant en lumière l’érosion des traditions et des écosystèmes africains sous l'impact de la modernité mondiale.
