Jalila Baccar

Jalila Baccar is a Tunisian writer, actor, playwright that L’Art Rue has worked with in different capacities, including in support of a new creation for Dream City 2023. Read the excerpts we have included in this edition of the ZAT, from two of her plays: À La Recherche d'Aïda and STIGMA.

Jalila Baccar is a Tunisian writer, actor, playwright, and graduate of L’Ecole Normale Supérieure. In 1976, she co-founded the first private Tunisian theatre company, le Nouveau Théâtre and, in 1994, created Familia Productions. She has marked the Tunisian and Arab theatre scene with her writing and roles since 1973. In 2003, she won the Prix SACD de la Francophonie for Araberlin. She is a member of the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts and received the Mahmoud Darwich Prize in 2012. Her past artistic projects include: Araberlin, Comédia, Familia, A la recherche de Aida, Junun, Khamsoun, Amnesia, Violences, Peurs, Métamorphose #2, etc.
