"Cette mer est à moi" by Ghassen Chraifa

"This Sea is Mine" is a visual documentation project that has its roots in the island of Kerkenah. The sea, a source of sustenance, a living heritage is the main protagonist of this project. It is an open and complex window around which the lives of its inhabitants revolve. It is the way out to an idealized future for the younger generation and a misfortune for the older one that sees pollution and maritime desertification taking over. The particularity of life in Kerkenah goes beyond the tranquillity of a pleasure island and the calm of a beach that has managed to preserve its wild character. The relationship to the sea in Kerkenah extends to the very edges of existence itself. Aiming to underline these paradoxes, to quantify them, to name them, "This sea is mine" is a way of giving voice to the different facets of life in this archipelago where everything is linked to the ultramarine waves, is adorned with that ideal image that appears on the surface but dies away from the dark reality of the deep blue.
