L'Art Rue is hosting the El Mawred - Culture Resource's Abbara programme from 22 to 26 of May 2023 .
The Abbara programme was launched in 2011 by El Mawred, Culture Resource to support independent cultural initiatives and organizations as key actors in building a meaningful cultural sector for their societies. Through the six rounds it has held so far, the programme has supported and enabled 66 independent cultural and artistic initiatives and organizations from the Arab region. The programme team has continued to accompany them, watching them progress and bearing witness to the considerable difficulties that compelled 19 of them to cease their operations.
In response to difficult circumstances (wars and conflicts, occupations and foreign interventions, political upheavals and economic crises, lack of necessary governmental support for arts and culture, lack of measures to mitigate the impact of crises on cultural actors, scarcity of funding sources...),, Abbara supports cultural entities by helping them build the capacities to render them administratively viable, thereby ensuring their sustainability and ability to evolve independently, and in a manner that builds on local contexts. The program also encourages participant organizations to exchange their knowledge and experiences and to experiment cooperative endeavours.
