Returning to the history of Caserne El Attarine, Ferielle Doulain-Zouari discovers that the place, built in 1813 during the reign of Hamouda Pacha becomes a library, therefore a place inhabited by different writings. Collections of the Library of books and manuscripts in Arabic language rub shoulders with collections inherited from the colonial era in French language.
The proposed installation tries to give material to this content through the graphic design of the line : geographical lines, linguistic or textual lines, which emerge from the ground like the roots of the place. Modelled manually from terracotta and glass, these lines «roots» stored on earth are also the birthplace of bouquets of aromatic herbs, recalling the origin of the term «Attarine» which refers to the souk of perfumes and henna.
