An Unordinary Park, A Shared Gesture
An Unordinary Park, A Shared Gesture
In the resonant stillness of empty stages — before the lights rise for the audiences of Dream City 2025 — choreographer and artistic director Éric Minh Cuong Castaing, alongside co-choreographer Aloun Marchal, opened another kind of space: one of encounter.
During a residency in Tunis, they began shaping the contours of an unusual, interior park. p/\rc_ is not a performance in the traditional sense — it is a shifting territory, a space to inhabit with the body. With the children of AGIM (General Association for Children with Motor Disabilities) in La Marsa, and the A.A.H.H.M center in Ben Arous, the choreographers initiated a wordless dialogue. Gestures were exchanged, dances emerged.
In this park, dancers do not lead — they accompany. They become slides, supports, carriers of breath, extensions of a movement coming into being. Gaze, touch, and breath improvise a sensitive score.
It was at the heart of these shared moments — between inhalation and care — that auditions took place. Tunisian performers, immersed in this embodied encounter with the children, were organically chosen to carry the project to the stage. A casting process not imposed, but received — born of connection.
For p/\rc_ is more than an artistic object. It is what Éric Minh Cuong Castaing calls an in socius work: a choreographic gesture formed beyond the traditional art world, yet deeply moving its boundaries. A political and poetic exploration of care, of the norm, of the ties that bind.
When the audience finally enters this park, they will not simply witness — they will move through it. They will traverse a living space, resonant with interdependent dances, shared vulnerabilities, and emerging strengths.
A prelude to the stage — but above all, a rehearsal for another way of making community.
